Bamboo:

Has two basic types of root systems, running and clumping. Running bamboos are referred to as leptomorph and spread in dimensions of feet while clumping bamboos, with pachymorph rhizomes, spread in terms of inches.

Want to contain your bamboo? We have large ceramic pots, and rhizome barrier to prevent the spread of bamboo in the ground. Ask us about it!

Clumping Bamboo:

Spreads slowly and does not require rhizome barrier. Pachymorph rhizomes are 2-3” long and each rhizome terminates in the form of a culm. This gives the bamboo a tight growth habit with culms densely spaced a couple of inches apart.

Running Bamboo:

Has an extensive network of rhizomes that has gotten a reputation for being invasive. Bamboo is a forest plant in nature and needs room to grow.
